Parties at school were major events for kids in the 1940’s. During the war, sugar was saved so cookies and other treats could be made. Like today, kids made or bought cards and they were stored in a special Valentine's box. One student was selected to be the “mailman” and distribute the cards. Students decorated sugar cookies, used doilys to make baskets for their decorated cookies and made a variety of paper chains.
